Tea Party Hosts Rally At Statehouse

April 15, 2010

One of the 5 U.S. Senate Republican candidates, Don Bates, Jr. campaigning for support

About 25 hundred protesters gathered at the Indiana Statehouse this afternoon for one of many Tea Party rallies around the state, and the country.  Many supporters showed up wearing red, white and blue, carrying flags, and signs with slogans like: “Cut Taxes Not Deals” and “No Socialism.”  Carol Ann Woelful of Westfield was among the Tea Party activists in the crowd.  She says her biggest reason for coming was feeling that politicians aren’t respecting what voters want.

“They don’t listen to us.  We tell them things.  We vote certain ways and we say we don’t like this policy and they say

tough we want to do it anyway.  We know better than you.  I’m sorry.  But if they think they know better than I do, then maybe they need to look for a different line of work.”

Very few of the protesters interviewed for this story said they’d decided who they would vote for in the upcoming May primary.  But all said they would be choosing the candidate they thought was overall the most fiscally and politically conservative.
