Higher Ed in the ’09 Session

April 13, 2009

Indiana’s state funded universities are among those organizations looking to the state legislature this year to find out whether they’ll see increases, or cuts, in the next two year budget. They’ve seen plans for their revenue go from a four percent cut in Governor Mitch Daniels’ budget proposal to a 4 percent total increase from the House Democrats. Thursday, the Senate Appropriations Committee approved a one percent increase in each of the two budget years. Indiana Public Broadcasting’s Marianne Holland spoke with retiring Commissioner for Higher Education, Stan Jones, and Democratic Representative Sheila Klinker, who also works for Purdue University, about the higher education matters facing state government this year.
