From Smoking to Driving: Are Lawmakers Meddling Too Much This Session?

Indiana has long prided itself on being a state where individuals are free to succeed or fail without a whole lot of government meddling. But one person’s meddling is another person’s necessary government oversight. That tension has surfaced in many of this session’s most interesting debates, including those dealing with a proposed ban on smoking in public places, the installation of cameras to catch traffic violations and limitations on what drivers can do behind the wheel. Indiana Public Broadcasting’s Marianne Holland talked with two of the legislator speaking out on some of those changes, Representative Jackie Walorski of Jimtown and Senator Tom Wyss of Fort Wayne.
